Music at Cork Film Festival

The Musical Stylings of Cork Film Festival!

To celebrate the Jazz Weekend and all things musical, we have put together a Spotify playlist (below) inspired by the soundscape of Cork Film Festival. Our Box Office will be open all weekend at 119 Patrick Street, so if you’re in town for the festivities why not pick up a copy of our brochure and ask our team for some recommendations!

Follow our Spotify profile corkfilmfestival where we will be uploading a series of playlists capturing the various genres and eras of music featured in the 2017 programme. From soundtrack and soundscape to music-documentary to cine-concert, read on for some of our top picks from the venn diagram of music and film.

Promised Land
Eugene Jarecki traverses America in Elvis Presley’s Rolls Royce in an attempt to get to discover the heart and soul of the country. Featuring interviews with David Simon, Emmylou Harris, Alec Baldwin and Chuck D.

Barbara
Jeane Balibar plays an actress playing the role of celebrated French singer Barbara. The film has biopic elements but the real treat is the songs and their settings – stages revealed through parting velvet curtains, elegant wood panelled recording studios and impeccably recreated vintage apartments.

Teenage Superstars
Director Grant McPhee (Big Gold Dream) crafts an endearing, jangly love letter to the musical revolution of the 1980s Glasgow suburbs. Featuring The Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream, The Soup Dragons and their contemporaries.

Saturday Night Fever
Just the mention of Saturday Night Fever brings to mind disco lights, smooth moves and jive talkin’. In a beautiful new restoration and directors cut, we once again get to see the film that director John Badham wanted us to see, with its iconic soundtrack from the Bee Gees.
