    Ewa is a 10-year-old girl living in a high building in a quiet town. She’s an odd, lonely child and for good reason: she’s convinced of being a vampire. Fascinated by Hugo, 15, she dreams of turning him into a vampire too, so that she can overcome her loneliness. When Ewa opens up to him, she gets bullied by teenagers from the neighbourhood. Hurt in her body and soul, she’s ready to act in the creepiest, sickest ways to prove her identity to the world.

In examining these age-old rituals through surprisingly free testimonies, the director questions her own condition as an unmarried woman with no children, and therefore the end of a mother-daughter chain-relationship.

    In 1998, two schoolgirls sent a letter to Iran’s first-ever women’s newspaper. While they waited to be published, they considered making an impossible film.

    NO HORSES ON MARS

    Bea de Visser | Netherlands | 2024 | 15 mins

    We experience a trailer ride on the highway and wake up from anaesthesia in a veterinary clinic. No Horses on Mars is practically a road film, whose POVs from the horse is the most effective element of the film. The horse appears as the galloping mind that resides in all domesticated horses. The human being is introduced as a screen viewer who follows the horse, wants to measure, records and knows her as an object. Ultimately, from the human perspective in the film, there seems to be a glimmer of recognition for the individuality of the horse.

What kind of images do we get of the world now that everyone is a photographer, and what does it do with how we unfold our identities? How has the internet both captured and freed us? And will Truls even dare to show this film?

Through a gentle, minimalist approach, the camera is nearby the protagonists, when they are alone, when they are together, focusing on their attempts to communicate with each other, on their silences, on the weight of their bodies. Blue is a film about love, fear, anxiety, and the emotions that emerge at their intersection.
