Enda Bowe is an Irish photographer working in both photography and film. Bowe’s work is concerned with storytelling and the search for light and beauty in the ordinary. Exploring projects in novelistic or cinematic terms, and how the disparate elements make up a united structure.
His work has been exhibited at Red Hook Gallery, New York, The V&A Museum, London, Fotohof, Salzburg, Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin, and VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art, Ireland. In 2019 he received the Zurich Portrait Prize at the National Gallery Ireland as well as being shortlisted for the for the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize. Working in film, Enda has worked alongside Lenny Abrahamson, Hettie McDonald, Shane Meadows and Ben O’Connor.
Director Brendan Canty asked Bowe to come on the set of his short film ‘Christy’, which is premiering as part of the Screen Ireland World Premiere Shorts on the November 16th in The Everyman. As well as shooting stills for the film, Bowe was tasked with capturing the greater world surrounding the project in Knocknaheeny, Cork:
“The cast of young actors were so incredible, they were full of talent, dedication and emotion, it was a privilege to work with such a young and gifted cast, l’m sure many of them will flourish in the future. It was also a joy to work alongside Brendan, a director whose ideas and sensitivities resonate with my own, and to try and support the passion and vision in his work which is loaded with possibility, hope, vulnerabilities and the humour and journey in our everyday lives.”
A series of works by Enda Bowe will be presented in Cork Film Festival Box Office, 88 North Main Street, as part of Cork Film Festival 2019. Admission Free
