Dr. Barry Monahan PhD,
Lecturer in Film Studies,
Department of English,
University College Cork,

| Even as the youngest storytelling medium, the cinema has still had over a century to refine and perfect its ability to move, thrill and challenge audiences. It has done this with different styles and tricks through fables, fantasies and fictions. But the story is only one aspect of film art and it was neither its first nor its main faculty to delight billions of spectators. In a fast-paced reeling through the history of cinema, Barry Monahan will dip in and out of the vast and colourful varieties of film production and experience. He will explore the rich life-span of this incredible and unique machine on a historical journey that will wonder at the magic of the medium and celebrate the artists, audiences and ambitions that have animated its creativity for over 100 years. |
