Cork Film Festival has a record of supporting new talent, in particular of supporting young Irish filmmakers. Previous winners of short-film awards in Cork include John Moore (Jack’s Bicycle, 1990), Lenny Abrahamson (The 3 Joes, 1991), Kirsten Sheridan (Patterns, 1998), Paddy Jolley (Seven Days ‘Till Sunday, 1998), Ian Power (Buskers, 2000), Conor Horgan (The Last Time, 2002), Ken Wardrop (Undressing My Mother, 2004) and Margaret Corkery (Killing The Afternoon, 2005) all of whom have gone on to make feature films.
We like to think that a Cork screening and award has given encouragement at least. This year we go further and introduce a three-day Filmmaker Development Programme, aimed at young filmmakers and indeed those aspiring to enter the industry.
Most elements of the programme are free, some entail a €25 fee. The Industry Fair is free and open to all.
