Corona Cork Film Festival is Ireland’s oldest and largest film event. The festival was established in 1956 to bring to Irish audiences the best of international cinema and to showcase new Irish cinema.
Cork’s programme is eclectic and exciting. We screen feature films from throughout the world, but are equally committed to screening other forms of film art, representative of the best in contemporary cinema, including documentaries, animation and experimental film. In particular, Cork supports the art of the short film. Our programme also includes retrospectives, seminars and industry events.
Shorts come first in Cork
Cork is committed to supporting the short film, believing it to be innovative, challenging and rewarding. Each year we screen over 100 contemporary shorts. Cork is competitive only for shorts and prizes include Best International Short, Best Irish Short and several other categories including the Prix UIP.
Prix UIP, European Film Award
The Prix UIP is an award for the Best European Short Film. The short must be 15 minutes or under, the year of production must be 2008 and the director must hold a European passport.
Documentary Panorama
We screen a full programme of documentary films which engage with and illuminate social, political and cultural issues. Documentaries must be Irish Premieres.
New Irish Cinema
Cork is a showcase for the Irish film industry. Our programme of New Irish Cinema ranges from student work to premieres of the latest features.
