1985 Highlights

  • Festival is opened by Minister for Foreign Affaires, Mr Peter Barry. Festival reverts to its "international status"Festival screens 45 feature films from 24 countries
  • Opening Gala: (USA) Silverado, directed by Lawrence Kasdan
  • Closing Gala: (UK) Parker, directed by Jim Goddard
  • Robin O'Sullivan steps down as Director of the Film Festival and calls for increased sponsorship from businesses and the people of Cork if the festival is to survive
  • Festival pay tribute to British actor/director/producer Richard Attenborough by screening six of his films. Richard Attenborough attends the festival and gives a lecture on filmmaking
  • Controversy arises prior to the screening of "Je vous salue Marie" which tells the story of a modern Blessed Virgin Mary married to a taxi driver
