1984 Highlights

  • Festival is launched by the Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affaires, Mr Jim O'Keeffe
  • Opening Gala: (Ireland) Pigs, directed by Cathal Black and stars Joan Harpur and Maurice O'Donoghue
  • Festival is the longest festival to date as it runs for nine days and screens 52 feature films and 12 shorts. 27 countries are represented in the festival
  • Robin O'Sullivan states that "the setting up of a new organisation is essential development if the festival is to survive". A deadline of 2 months is set for a final decision of the future of the Cork Festival of Film
  • The festival marks the centenary of the birth of the great filmmaker, Robert Flaherty by screening his film, "Man of Aran"
  • Closing Gala: (Ireland)World Premiere of Anne Devlin, directed by Pat Murphy
