Festival Club

Nightly at Cork Opera House

Join us each evening at the Festival Club located at the top floor bar of Cork Opera House. The bar itself opens from 5.30pm every evening; and the club (kicking off about 9.30pm nightly) is this year programmed and hosted by Ronan Leonard of Corksongs. Come and enjoy a drink with visiting filmmakers and delegates by the big windows overlooking the Lee, and catch some great music.

A ticket to any screening at the festival is required for entry to the club.

Sunday 7
ACT 1
The speeches are over, let’s set the scene, introduce the main characters, maybe set-up a sub-plot or red herring, and lead up to an interesting twist at the end.

Monday 8
DEAD COOL
R.I.P. it up a set of records where the main person is no longer on this mortal coil. From Frank Zappa to Solomon Burke to Gram Parsons. Anything goes, requests positively encouraged.

Tuesday 9
DON & RON’s STAFF PICKS MIX
The annual night where all the staff and volunteers at the festival pick 3 songs each and Don & Ron reflect upon it and work out some semblance of a mix. (They make it look effortless though).

Wednesday 10
UNDER COVER
The most unoriginal DJ night in the world. Playing only cover versions from samba versions of Kraftwork to re-imagined recordings of classic Beatles songs to introducing the fact that some well known hits were indeed covers.

Thursday 11 (late bar)
STEVIE G.
Cork’s foremost DJ will play a selection of music from Soul to Rock to Electronica. If it’s got a back beat, a great bass-line or a savage melody it’s up for consideration.

Friday 12 (late bar)
DJ FREAKENSTEIN
It’s Friday night at the film festival and the world’s our oyster. DJ F will be serving a quality smorgasbord of global grooves and funky stuff from the ‘other side’.

Saturday 13
ALIEN ENVOY
Cashmans Pub (upstairs) @ 1.00pm a special gig with Alien Envoy (recently adopted alter ego of Nick Kelly, formerly of Fat Lady Sings and director of the film SHOE, premiering at 4.00pm on Saturday in the IFB shorts programme). A free yet ticketed event – please collect your complimentary ticket at the festival box office.

Saturday 13 (late bar)
ANYTHING GOES
Festival club late; It’s Saturday Night, the records will go with the flow, they’ll be Every Which Way But Loose, which sounds like a film reference but ultimately means nothing specific!

Sunday 14
THE CREDITS
The reels are all packed away, the awards have been given, the pitches and networking finished, 50 weeks and 6 days until the next festival and now it’s time to enjoy a final few Coronas and hit the dance floor!
