After the death of his soul mate, 28-year-old painter Sebastian journeys from Spain to Mexico City, the place of his birth. Still grieving, his most recent drawings are mainly of squid, scientifically known as cephalopods. He is particularly attracted to the gigantic squid; a monstrous almost fantastic animal that science knows little about, and which his girlfriend was researching before her demise. He decides to journey to the Gulf of California, both in memory of her, and so that he might reconnect with his lost roots, and gain the emotional stability that he needs to keep living.
