London River starring Brenda Blethyn and Sotiguy Kouyate 540

    Rachid Bouchareb

    England, France, Algeria | 2009 | 90mins | 35 | colour

Set during the London bombings of 2005, Rachid Bouchareb – whose last film Days Of Glory was nominated for an Oscar® -has created a remarkably affecting yet astute drama about emotional connections in the face of conflict. Brenda Blethyn turns in a standout performance as Mrs. Sommers, whose daughter is missing after the bombings in London, forcing her Christian mother to rush to the city to find her. On her way, she encounters Ousmane, a Muslim, whose son is also on the missing list. Despite their wildly differing religious backgrounds, the two share the same hope in finding their children and embark on a journey, putting aside their cultural differences whereby they can give each other the strength to continue the search and maintain the faith.
