As a dark parable for our times, Up In The Air is peerless in its depiction of a corporate world gone mad. Ryan Bingham is a cold-eyed, jet-setting corporate downsizing consultant whose job allows him to pursue his own amoral lifestyle. As an in-demand corporate downsizer, his job takes him around the country firing employees on behalf of their bosses. As he comes close to reaching the coveted ten million frequent flyer miles, his own bosses drop a bombshell on him when they hire an eager young dynamo, Natalie, who suggests ways in which Bingham’s treasured job can be improved. After Juno, Reitman has scored another effortlessly funny and worldly-wise hit, and Clooney has rarely been better.
