Philip Ridley
England | 2009 | 90mins | 35mm | Colour
Director Philip Ridley has created a Faustian-themed urban fairytale, focusing on a budding photographer who is fooled into selling his soul by an evil spirit. Born with a heart-shaped birthmark on his face, Jamie feels unloved, particularly in the crime ridden streets of home where he lives with his widowed mother. The further he dives into the darkness that is his world, he thinks he may have found redemption through Papa B, who makes him a more tempting offer. Heartless is a dangerously exciting trip through the dark world of sacrifice and transfiguration in this horror-tinged fantasy.
