| Outlook - Special Programmes |
Welcome to Outlook 2008! This is the 18th year that
Outlook has been a dynamic and successful part of the
Festival. The foresight of the original organisers in 1991 has
always amazed me, when one considers that decriminalisation
did not come until 1993! It seems that we have come
a long way since those days and yet there is still so much to
do. This year promises to be one of the best programmes
yet. The Gala presentation of Brideshead Revisited is much
anticipated, and this year’s highlight for me is Mise Aerach,
a programme of great Irish gay short filmmaking. This year
is also tinged with sadness from the loss of Dónal Sheehan,
a former director of the Festival and a lifelong advocate of
gay rights. The Inaugural Dónal Sheehan Memorial Lecture
with director Peter Greenaway is an initiative of Dónal?s
friends and family and a wonderful tribute to him. We
warmly welcome Terence Davies, a supremely talented and
singular cinematic voice, presenting his new film Of Time
and The City, and in public interview with Irish Times film
critic Michael Dwyer. Such treats await us… enjoy!
