James Montgomery - Irish Censor
Since the foundation of the Irish State, Ireland has has nine Film Censors. Th 1923 Film Censorship Act left much to the
subject-tive interpretation of the Censor when evaluating a film. Kissing, language, dancing, 'too much leg', sexuality and birth control were just some of the reasons that could lead a film to either be re-edited or be completely banned
Under the current Censor, John Kelleher, the Irish Film Censor Office has been renamed The Irish Film Classification Office. In Kelleher's own words "..we have gone from stop sign to sign post."
