Billy Elliot is set against the backdrop of the 1980's miner's strike, a long bloody fought and bitter struggle in British history. Billy is the son of a miner and brother of a union leader. Billy's father pushes him into the traditional and accepted pastime of boxing, but when Billy stumbles upon a ballet class, his world changes forever.
