Isamu Hirabayashi’s short films have been intriguing and puzzling international film festival audiences for several years. His distinctive approach has graced many programmes, bringing a fresh Japanese voice to the scene. He was born in Shizuoka, Japan in 1972 and he is a graduate of Musashino Art University. He has made eight short films, and we are pleased to present his full catalogue at this year’s festival.

We asked the question: Isamu Hirabayashi, why do you make short films?

“Because of the fact that we live in a world of ideas. Even though my vision of the world and my stories are imperfect, one good idea can make a great film”.

We warmly welcome Isamu Hirabayashi to the festival to present his work.
