I was nobody until I killed the biggest somebody on Earth, says Mark David Chapman in this dramatised retelling of the events surrounding the murder of John Lennon. In many ways the first celebrity stalker, Mark Chapman’s mindset is examined before, during and after that fatal day with the rock star outside the Dakota; taking his own words from his memoirs, journals and audio interviews.
He identifies with Holden Caulfield from The Catcher In The Rye, and considers Lennon to be the biggest ‘phony’ of all, due to his call for people to ‘imagine no possessions’ whilst living in a mansion, as well as his anti-Christianity comments. His twisted logic leads him to decide that it is his destiny to kill the hypocritical ex-Beatle.
