Father Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zaleski, the co-founder and president of Brother Albert’s Foundation and author of the book Priests in the Face of the Security Services, had been persecuted for many years by the secret police and recently came to prominence in the battle concerning the image of the Polish Church during Communism. His book, based on documents that had been found in the archives of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), shows the relations between the Cracow Archdiocese clergymen and the security services of Communist Poland. The book was famous even before it was published, mainly thanks to the resistance that was put up by the Church hierarchy: Zaleski was being accused, slandered, and faced the threat of being suspended.
The documentary combines unique film archives from the eighties with the contem-porary statements of senior Church figures, IPN historians and ZNAK Publishing House employees. Throughout we see author’s struggle to reveal the truth regarding the co-operation of some clergymen with Communist secret services creating a valuable and insightful document on the relationship between the Polish Church and its own past.
