The International Festival Signes de Nuit in Paris is comprised of films, which reflect new views, original imagery and a critical approach to the crucial points of the modern human existence.
It is a place for cinema that expands its own boundaries, that is astonishing, different, potentially free from the pressure of tradition, ready to give itself to the unpredictable experiment.
Special artistic forms of these films, which combine music, image, movement, rhythm, text, space, lighting and time carry not only an aesthetic purpose, but also broaden the possibilities of communication and understanding between people within different international communities, with their mental, social and physiological
phenomena. This is the responsibility of the engaged cinema and audio-visual production.
This opposition and the preservation of the free cultural space is the goal of Signes de Nuit festival, which was held in 16 different countries including Lebanon, Cuba, Turkey, Japan, Australia, Peru, Slovenia, Tunisia, Lithuania and Russia as well as the annual festival in Paris, which this year will present a programme with films coming from 35 countries.
In Cork, the Festival Signes de Nuit wants to show a wide spectrum of its different contributions and research, from enigmatical transitions of complex political conflicts (Schizophrenic State) to (ironical) confrontations with Well-known cinematographical languages (Down, World Gone Wrong),from traces of rebellion (My Name Is Paolo Leminski) to unbearable realities (The Other American Dream), from cinematographical machines of image productions (A Man’s Got To Do What A Man’s Got To Do) to surreal existentialism (Klecks), from strong political “reminders” (1982) to the wildness of human existence (Chyenne), from poetical self transgression (Dog) to strange contexts interferences (Impending Doom) and last but not least (Just) celebrations of audiovisual synthesis between literature and cinema, poetry and philosophy, marking existential key situation (Fata Morgana).
