Amnesty International –
Voice Our Concern Film Screening |
|
Amnesty International’s Voice Our Concern initiative is a post-primary human rights education module for transition year students and youth drama groups. Amnesty believes that opportunities for young people in Ireland to express and address issues of concern to them are limited: young people are unable to vote and their concerns are not generally represented in the mainstream media.
Filmmakers and photographers such as Terry George, Frank Miller and Paddy Breathnach, worked with schools to produce short films on topics such as the experience of being a refugee in Ireland, homelessness and child neglect, and photography on issues such as the war in Iraq, prisoners' rights and sexual violence. The films were screened at the IFI in May and the photography was exhibited in Filmbase. The films have been produced as a DVD and will be used, along with an accompanying workbook on film and photography, as an educational resource in the classroom. |
