Joy : A Silent Short Film Projected To Live Organ Music

Ireland | 2006 | 7mins | 16mm | Black & White

This silent film is inspired by a piece of contemporary organ music by the French composer Olivier Messiaen. Based on the theme of ascension, the film has been composed to the music, super-imposing two contrasting visual elements: a contemporary solo dance choreographed to the music and a camera drive through the underground organ chamber of St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral. The film will be projected at the cathedral itself to a live performance of the music by organist Colin Nicholls. Part of the event will be an exhibition documenting the making of the film as well as giving background information on the composer.
