Small Town Gay Bar

A fascinating account of the gay rights struggle in the Bible Belt area of America, this documentary examines the issue faced by gay men and women in Mississippi, profiling two gay bars in particular.
Those interviewed throughout the documentary offer personal accounts of living with fear and oppression in the face of hostility from the religious right and having to keep their sexuality a secret from family members and workmates.
The director compiles the secret history of the rural gay bars that have come and gone, often shut down due to Christian Coalition crackdowns.
Both heartwarming and candid, Small Town Gay Bar is a crucial documentation of the fight for acceptance from those that have endured oppression, found acceptance, been hurt, and been healed – people who are ultimately no different from anybody else.
