Her opponents call her The Green Killer. They gave her the Bullshit Award for sustaining poverty. Time magazine says she is a hero of our times, the Queen of Anti-Globalisation. This is a film documenting two years in the life of Vandana Shiva, Indian environmental activist and nuclear physicist. We follow Shiva all the way from her organic farm at the foot of the Himalayas to her battles with her toughest opponents: Monsanto, Coca-Cola and the World Trade Organisation.
The filmmakers arrange a meeting between Shiva and Barun Mitra, liberal think-tank and fiercest critic of Shiva – and the man who gave her the Bullshit Award. Bullshit is not only a film about one woman’s fight against globalisation but also deals with the related issues of patenting, genetic engineering, bio-piracy, indigenous knowledge and farmers’ suicide. |
