2001 Highlights

  • Opening Gala: (Ireland) "Disco Pigs" adapted from the successful play by Enda Walsh. Directed by Kirsten Sheridan, the film stars Eileen Walsh and Cillian Murphy.
  • Closing Gala: (Czech/ UK) Dark Blue World, directed by Jan Sverak
  • Screening of "Bejing Bicycle" directed by Wang X Idoshuai and winner of Jury Grand Prix Award in Berlin. The film tells the story of a bicycle courier who is driven by ambition to own the silver mountain bike he uses for work
  • Dublin director Cathal Gaffney's "Give up yer Aul Sins" wins the first Jameson Award for Best Irish Short. The film is based on Margaret Cunningham's original recordings of a Dublin school in the 1950s telling the story of John the Baptist
