  • Opening Gala: (USA) "Barcelona" directed by Whit Stillman which discusses young Americans living in Spain. Whit Stillman attends the screening
  • Closing Gala: (China)To Live, directed by Zhang Yimou
  • Screening of "Muriel's Wedding" directed by P.J. Hogan
  • Controversy arises as Cork Film Festival Jury withhold the Annual Best Irish Short Film Award as jury feel there is nothing exceptional amongst the entries
