1970 Highlights

  • A workshop catering for young filmmakers takes place
  • Festival is opened by Bryan Forbes, Head of Associated British Production Studios
  • Opening Gala: (Italy) God is with Us, directed by Guiliano Montaldo
  • Festival pays tribute to Bryan Forbes and honours his works by screening 'Whistel Room', 'King Rat', 'The Wrong Box' and 'The Whispers'
  • Petrol bomb is thrown at the main cinema by two teenage members of Sinn Féin during British night of the festival. Nobody is hurt.
  • Major plans to reduce seating numbers in the Savoy cinema could affect future of festival
