  • Opening Gala: (USA) Bye Bye Braverman, directed by Sydney Lumet
  • Closing Gala: (Italy) Drop dead my love drop dead, directed by Pasquale Festa Campanile
  • 28 countries submit 60 films to the festival
  • Festival opened by Mr Patrick Carey, producer of the award winning film 'Yeats County'
  • Cork Film Festival selected by the International Federation of Film Societies as the venue for the presentation of the best short and feature films shown at festivals
  • Miss Film World 1968, Jane London from Hollywood attends the festival. She is given the keys to the festival coach for the duration of the festival
  • New Category: Short fiction films not longer than 40 minutes
  • Sydney Lumet is the subject of the retrospective programme
  • Film Industry Committee reccomend setting up a Film Board
  • Cork International Film Festival Council withdraw all Russian entries for the festival following Russia's military escapades with Czechoslovakia
