1967 Highlights

  • 600 delegates from more than 30 nations attend the festival. Screening of 23 feature films and 3 short films
  • Five fewer international competitive festivals take place this year but Cork retains its competitive status. 17 festivals in total approved by the International Federation of Film Producers.
  • Festival is opened by the Minister for Education, Mr O'Malley.
  • Opening Gala: (France) A Fool in Paris, directed by Serge Korber starring Jean Lefebrve who attends the screening
  • Cork Film Festival reject the British Film 'Separation' directed by Jack Bond which arrived two hours before screening. After a rushed preview the selection committee unanimously decide the film is not up to standard. Irate audience members walk out when the American Film 'Incubus' is screened instead of 'Separation'. Variety Magazine supported Cork's decision and said "A fast summation, Cork was right"
  • An Taoiseach, Mr Jack Lynch attends the screening and stresses the role that the Cork Film Festival has played in putting Ireland on the world's cultural map
  • Closing Gala: (USA): Up the Down Staircase, directed by Robert Mulligan
