This summer saw London's National Film Theatre (NFT) and the British
Film Institute (BFI) team up with artists and produc-ers Addictive
TV and curators Cinefeel to present Optronica; an event dedicated
to the convergence of music and visuals. We are delighted to present
a taste of this exciting new festival with a specially compiled
"best of" programme.
The selection of newly recorded audiovisual work shows the different
aspects of the audiovisual genre and how today the long traditional
of visual-music has expanded to include the wide range of styles
and practices which contemporary audiovisual artists, animators,
experimental film-makers and collaborative multimedia groups are
now exploring. There's a piece made entirely on a ZX Spectrum, an
animation where a city-scape full of people has been created from
circuit boards, there's hand-painted single frames of film digitally
synced to music, full-blown 3D CGI, abstract pop promos, film sampling
and media remixing work, and all manner of classical and electronic
music-based audiovisual pieces. Plus work from the award-winning
TV and DVD project 'Mixmasters' from producers and Optronica organisers
Addictive TV.
How can you not attend something with a name as cool as Optronica?
