The Europe in Shorts programme is an initiative of the European
Coordination of Film Festivals with the support of the Media programme
of the European Commission. Always linked to a particular theme,
it allows short movies to be accessible to audiences at festivals,
each programme being screened several dozen times at member festivals.
Given the Coordination members' growing interest in screening films
for a young audience and the huge success of the programme Europe
in Shorts 4 - For Kids, the Coordination's audiovisual education
workshop proposed the creation of a new Europe in Shorts programme
for an audience aged 3 upwards.
The films in this programme have been selected by different members
festivals of the Coordination. The programme is coordinated by Plein
la Bobine, Sancy film festival for young people (France), with the
help of Sauve qui Peut le Court Métrage, organiser of the
Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (France).
The programme will be available to member festivals for three years,
until 10 June 2008.
The eight selected films, from Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland,
France, Germany and Slovenia, show the vitality and diversity of
animated films in Europe. Not only are their origins diverse, but
so are the techniques demonstrated in the programme: pastel drawings,
clay animation and also a mix between animation and live action
shooting. This ensemble shows the richness of European creativity
in the field of animation, and its artistic qualities will delight
young and old alike.
