  • Festival is opened by the Minister for Education, Mr O'Malley.
  • Opening Gala: (France) A Fool in Paris, directed by Serge Korber starring Jean Lefebrve who attends the screening

Variety Magazine supported Cork's decision and said "A fast summation, Cork was right"
  • An Taoiseach, Mr Jack Lynch attends the screening and stresses the role that the Cork Film Festival has played in putting Ireland on the worldÕs cultural map
