Captain Bennett Marco and Sgt Raymond Shaw served together during Desert Storm and were part of a platoon of U.S. soldiers who were kidnapped by the enemy, and brainwashed to become pawns once they return home. Now, ten years later, Raymond Shaw is climbing the political ladder, as his mother's new husband is a powerful senator helping a presidential candidate. Marco spends his days giving inspiring speeches about his platoon's ambush in the Kuwaiti desert and the heroics of Shaw, who won the Medal of Honour for saving them. However, he is not dealing with the adjustment after the war that well, and eventually remembers being brain-washed. Knowing that it's just a matter of time before Shaw is called to service by his handler, Marco contacts Shaw to try to get through to him before something terrible happens...

Jonathan Demme's remake of John Frankenheimer's 1962 thriller infuses it with an urgent topicality. Meryl Streep chillingly plays a senator ruthlessly pursing the political prospects of her son - Michael Dwyer, The Irish Times
