Awards & Short Films at Cork Film Festival


International Jury

The International Jury will adjudicate the Best International Short Award.

Agron Domi

Born in 1962 in Tirana, Agron always dreamed of seeing the world through the lens of a camera. He began realising his dream by working with the movie section in Albanian Television. The fall of communism in 1990 exposed him to the possibilities of digital photography when he visited the West. Upon his return home in 1996, he founded Fasada Studios ('The best one in Albania'). He has worked across the board as a filmmaker, and has taken part in international festivals with his short films and documentaries such as The Beggar and Tears of Kosovo. Agron is also instrumental in organising the First International Film Festival in Tirana, which is due to take place in December.

Noreen Donohoe

With an M.A. in Film Studies from University College Dublin, Noreen's varied work in the Irish film industry has included stints at UTV, the Irish Film Archive and most recently as a very successful producer with Zanita Films. At Zanita, Noreen worked in a producer capacity on many award winning adverts and short films. She has also worked in production on feature films including How Harry Became a Tree. She has been involved with making several award-winning short films including Buskers and Fifty Percent Grey and most notably, Conor Horgan's 2002 award winning The Last Time. Noreen has recently acted as Associate Producer of Lance Daly's feature film The Halo Effect starring Stephen Rea, Mick Lally, and Gerard McSorley which is currently in post-production.

Edward Fletcher

Edward has an MA Film & Television Studies from the University of Westminster. He has worked extensively within the UK film industry including Distribution Manager for the Institute of Contemporary Arts film distribution company, ICA Projects, from 1998-2002. He was also Cinema Manager for the Cambridge Arts Cinema and the Cambridge Film Festival, 1995-1998, and Cinema Manager for the David Lean Cinema, Croydon, 1994-1995. In November 1992, he founded Soda Pictures, a London-based film distribution and programming company with Eve Gabereau. Having just programmed the Northern Lights Film Festival in Newcastle, Soda Pictures presents two films in the 48th Cork Film Festival - Interstella 5555 and The Cuckoo.


National Jury

The National Jury will adjudicate the Jameson Short Film Award for Best Irish Short and the Claire Lynch Award.

Jane Hooks

Jane is a producer of numerous successful short films. Her production credits include over ten short films for Channel Four as well as producer and executive producer credits on a number of short films made for theatrical and festival exhibition. Working with award-winning directors her productions have picked up a number of awards and special mentions. In addition, she has commissioned, produced and executive produced a number of music videos, among them a top 5 nomination for Best Music Video at the German Dance Awards. She is also a regional producer for the UK Film Council's Digital Shorts Scheme.

Mary McCarthy

Mary is Deputy Director and Director of Programme Development for Cork 2005 European Capital of Culture. She is a graduate of UCC and UCD with postgraduate studies in Arts Management and Project Management. She was Director of the National Sculpture Factory, 1996-2002, and initiated major international symposia and discussions on art in the public domain, on the role of the creative practitioner in the city as well as a conference on Urban Design. She was involved in the development of public art policy at a national level. Previously she was curator of the international residency programme at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin. She has extensive gallery experience from the Kerlin Gallery, Dublin and Karasik Gallery, New York.

Stefano Sardo

Stefano was born in Bra, Italy in 1972. In 1996 he graduated in semiology at Turin University with a thesis on trailers. A screenwriter, he has written shorts and TV series and has just finished working with Enrico Remmert on La Ballata delle Canaglie, his feature film, for Rai Cinema. He sings and writes songs for Mambassa, an Italian rock band. He has published numerous short stories and a novel, L'America delle Kessler, published by Arcana in 2002. He has worked for Slow Food as a journalist, editor and press officer. He is a member of the artistic committee of the 'Short Film in Bra' Festival and is the deviser of 'Slow Food on Film', the first world festival dedicated to short films on food.
