It is reckoned that the line between genius
and depression is a thin one and comedian,
Roy Höllsdotter, all 38 years of shambling
misanthropy, has recently crossed it. Having
played no small part in driving away his girlfriend,
Cate, Roy now languishes in a morose haze,
emerging only to treat the Melbourne public
to his brand of caustic humour and merciless
put downs. Roy does have his hobbies though,
binge drinking and surreptitiously photographing
his ex. His friend, Andrew, and his fellow
entertainers agree that there is a stalky
element to what he is doing. Every night he
sits at the window of a café taking
pictures of Cate, whenever she drives past
on her way home.
Despite being at the height of his powers,
Roy's standing takes a serious dent when he
rips up the P.C. rulebook while taking a hapless
heckler apart. However, it's his devoted mate,
put-upon Andrew, also caught up in the crossfire
between Roy and Cate, who tries to pick up
the pieces. Will he succeed or will he too,
get caught in the fall out?
Managing to be both mordant and affecting,
Roy Höllsdotter Live shares the same
dimly lit comedy cellar as Fosse's Lenny.
