Rémy has always enjoyed the life he
chose to live - a lover of 'wine, books, music
and women, especially women'. A shamelessly
flirtatious history teacher, he spent his
life fulfilling himself both intellectually
and physically. Even now that he's in the
hospital, mere weeks from passing away, Rémy's
sense of humour is as strong as ever, perhaps
even stronger.
With Rémy facing his impending death,
his ex-wife, Louise, persuades his estranged,
straight-laced son, Sébastien, to return
from London to Montreal for reconciliation.
Though initial meetings aren't promising,
a thaw begins with Sébastian rounding
up his father's acquaintances, a motley bunch
of ex-lovers and ageing friends, to gather
at his bedside, arriving with quips of wisdom
about life, death, family and love.
An eloquent, achingly reflective taking
of stock, the picture is unmistakably Arcand's
